Scott Kazmir is slated to pitch for the Angels today, and while his 2-1 record is solid, his 7.20 ERA could certainly stand some improvement. Kazmir was most recently in action on Sunday against the Yankees, and although he yielded a mere three hits in 5 1/3 innings, he walked four and hit a batter. The Angels lefty is 3-4 in his career against Detroit, including 1-0 this season. His lifetime ERA against the Tigers is 4.50. Kazmir will be opposed by Detroits Jeremy Bonderman, who will also be looking to lower an inflated ERA. Bonderman is 1-1 this season with a 6.97 ERA, and he has averaged just over five innings per start. On Monday, the righty did not figure in the decision against Texas after surrendering four earned runs in 5 2/3 innings. Bonderman has yet to face the Angels this season and is 3-3 lifetime against the squad with a 4.66 ERA. Detroit drew first blood in this series on Friday, as Brennan Boeschs grand slam, the first home run of his career, capped an eight-run fourth inning, helping the Tigers to a 10-6 victory. Boeschs fellow rookie Scott Sizemore also hit his first career home run in that inning. Austin Jackson added to the Tigers rookies success with a career-high five hits, helping Detroit to its third win in a row. Gerald Laird hit a two-run homer for the Tigers, while Johnny Damon went 3- for-4 with a walk, triple and two runs batted in. Detroits big inning allowed Rick Porcello (2-2) to take the victory, though the right-hander was not especially effective. Porcello gave up five runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings, in which he struck out three and did not walk a batter. However much Porcello struggled, he was still much more successful than Angels starter Joel Pineiro (2-3), who in 3 1/3 innings surrendered 10 runs -- nine earned -- on 10 hits and one walk. Pineiro had given up only 10 runs in his first four starts of the season combined. You make mistakes against a good-hitting team like that and theyre going to make you pay for it, Pineiro said. They made me pay for it good. Torii Hunter hit a three-run homer for the Angels, who opened a 10-game road trip Friday following a 6-4 homestand.
